I’m a Nurse, Solution Focused Life and Stress management Coach and Entrepreneur.
Kathy Parlevliet, the Nurse who knows. Discovering the gift in what being a nurse means. There are the typical words of compassion and caring. Sometimes that is a misbelief. As I have discovered in my coaching career, words have different meanings to each of us. Based on our personal definition of our vocabulary makes an awareness of our beliefs. And, as a nurse most patients and families have put us in a different category of people. We are always supposed to care, no matter what. The patient could be using the call light every 10 minutes. Or climbing out of bed every time you turn around. The bed alarm doesn’t stop them from falling! A family member could be angry that the doctor hasn’t shown up yet. Or the test that was scheduled was delayed. However, we are not perfect and we do get tired and frustrated. And somedays our personal world is a distraction. We could be behind all day. And the time clock becomes very important.
Being a Nurse is one of the hardest jobs in the world. This is my perspective of course. But it is my belief. Our Gift of accountability and nurturing with the strength of many men and kind words to all. This is an expectation. We didn’t realize what a role we would have in peoples lives. There is a level of fulfillment that can’t be matched in many careers. And we truly save lives!
As you recognize the everyday role we carry in the world. It does take its toll on us. How we view our lives needs to be supported and appreciated. Making time to laugh and smile with your team is imperative to me. Making sure everyone is allowed a break from the workflow. Complimenting each other on a job well done. Trying to remember that we are all gifts to the world.
Knowing that it is great to have acknowledgement. It may not be enough. The stress of our lives is real. At theRNcoach.com,
I can support you and discuss solutions that are realistic.
Let’s talk soon.
