Our Nursing Cap Syndome

I’m a Nurse, Solution Focused Life and Stress Management Coach and Entrepreneur.

Kathy Parlevliet, the Nurse who knows.  It is an awareness to me that our Visions of nursing can be wrapped around our caps.  Just imagine when you graduated and how proud you were to wear your cap.  It is a powerful memory.  The start of a new journey in life. The beginning of a career that will support you beyond financially.  It is probably one of the greatest successes we have in our lives.  As time is our gift.  Our caps can become complicated.  We don’t actually recognize taking it off.

It stays on our heads all day and every day.  Feels like it really never leaves.  Today, I recognize how many places my cap actually falls.  It isn’t always obvious during the moment, but it can be surprising.

The Goal is to be able to set it on a shelf.  Either physical or imaginary.  Where you don’t have to feel accountable to your nursing life.  Acquiring the ability to breathe and accept all the other areas of your life that you enjoy.  It Doesn’t require anything from you.  This enables all the other life moments to be enjoyed even more.  I have shared to my non-nursing friends, that I am not being a nurse today. So, don’t hurt yourself!  And they all laugh. But I want to be off duty.

Nursing is an incredible career.  I noticed that a Doctor can say that’s not my specialty.  And it is understood.  But a nurse will be asked so many diverse questions. That is challenging, and rewarding, but also tiring.

So Be Kind to Yourself.  Take your cap off.  Enjoy all the sides of your life and if you need me to support you.  I am always here at theRNcoach.com.

Let’s talk soon.
