Passion for Performance

I’m a Nurse, Solution Focused Life and Stress Management Coach and Entrepreneur.

Kathy Parlevliet, the Nurse who knows.  Being passionate about our career is on ongoing task.  Somedays it is impossible to feel passionate about your job.  Trying to make it through your shift is the only goal insight.  To many issues to feel connected with the reason why you became a nurse in the first place.

The farther along your nursing path you become, the more challenging the memory of the reason why can fade.  Creating a feeling of love, support, and compassion to everyone you meet along your work day can be more effort than you can give.

Looking around and viewing your peers every day is an interesting moment.  Have you noticed how some are always cheerful?  You may never really know what is going on in their personal life because they have their work face on, and ready to go to work.  Others, might show up tired and burnt out on our profession.  They are difficult to talk to, and feel overwhelmed by work.

Which one are you like?  Is your passion burning out?  Are you able to see the different styles of Nurses surrounding you?  How can you support each other to give your passion a reboot?

Personally, I always wanted to be a nurse and am very grateful for the path this career has taken me.  My style is usually more positive, than negative.  I did say..usually, because we are human and our job is extremely challenging. Trying to find the positive can be difficult.

When you are in the ICU and patients and families are in the worst part of life together, they seek comfort.  They want to know that everything is alright, but sadly it isn’t always the truth.  Being careful not to destroy all hope is daunting.  The other day, I had to use the word struggling, in many patient rooms.  Suffering is another word, that is difficult to use.

As your passion is wavering, and you don’t feel effective or supported, it is time to reevaluate.  Take a breath and step back.  Rewrite your script internally for the day.  Be mindful, of what you say and how you say it.  Share your feelings with a close colleague, and you will find that you are not alone.  The day will move on, and tomorrow will be different.

Isn’t that one of the reasons we enjoyed nursing?  Understanding that everyday is a new challenge, with possibly the greatest reward of all..Life.  You are saving a life and extremely relevant to that patient and family.  They couldn’t heal without you.  All your tasks have paid off.

Be proud of yourself and acknowledge that we collectively are one of a kind.  Taking care of mind, body and spirit every day.  If you are struggling and need a coach, I am here at theRNcoach.com.

Let’s talk soon, Kathy
