Prioritize to Energize

Kathy Parlevliet, the Nurse who knows. Every day is a minefield of energy depletes.  It really doesn’t matter what stage of life you are in, because eventually we all say that we are tired.   Life is what you make it!  Yes, I can honestly say, that I make mine busy.  Sometimes, I actually make it crazy too.  If you take a look at your life, then absorb all the requirements needed to live, and then add in the things that make your life worth living..it can be a lot.  Priorities become the first part of this conversation.  Usually obvious what it is.  For me, through the years I have recognized that “I” am the most important component to my life.  If I don’t take care of myself, then all the other parts of my life fall apart. 

    Does this sound selfish to you?  How can you create a life that fulfills most parts of your life?  Who else would benefit from this?  When would this become important to you?

   Asking these questions makes me even more aware of life goals.  As a wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, friend, and employee, I wear several hats.  No wonder I can feel out of control.  With every important person in my life there is a tug on my heart.  Trying to sort out what to do next, can be fun and exhausting.

   Living with a calendar, is probably the most important tool that I use.  Writing down times and places keeps me aware of what is next.  You can have a calendar for almost any area of your life.  Creating a map for your day, week, month, and even year.  Recognizing that this takes time also, it really can guide you. It helps others around me too.  They can see what the plan is.  Promotes less frustration, and helps everyone have a better understanding of the moment. 

    Food, is always a subject for me. While working night shift for over 25 years and raising my family, the question of” what’s for dinner?”, I dreaded.  Most of the time I hadn’t thought about it yet.  Taking years for me to figure out this answer.  It was such a discovery for me to recognize that I needed to plan meals!  Found a white board style weekly calendar.  And wrote down all the meals of the week.  Shopped for them according to the plan.  Can’t imagine how much money I have saved from that.  And, no one asks me anymore!  It is so beautiful.  Trying not to divert the menu plan is helpful too. Everyone benefited from this idea.  Do you think it can work for you too?

    Exercising your mind, body, and spirit is the goal.  Although, not always attainable, working out my body somehow everyday is important.  Starting small increments of time, can help so much.  Ten minutes for stretching. A walk around the block.  Then increase slowly.  Having experimented with many different styles of exercise, the best for me was at home.  Loving the idea of going to the studio or gym, it was so difficult to squeeze in.  And then I felt guilty about the money, and not going.  But the benefit of doing something just for you, is irreplaceable.  Giving everywhere else to everyone else, is our life.
