I’m a Nurse, Solution Focused Life and Stress Management Coach and Entrepreneur.
Kathy Parlevliet, the Nurse who knows. Wondering if a thought about transitioning as ever entered your mind. In the beginning of your nursing career, it was so exciting just to have a job. Finally, after all the schooling and license requirements. You did it! Security in your future and money in your pocket. A new chapter in your life started. All the excitement and opportunity has arrived. And then the real-world hits.
Being responsible for your path is not always easy. The twists and turns can bring many new awareness’s. And sometimes doubt about your decision. If this feeling starts leaking into your mind. Then perhaps it is time for a deeper conversation. Sometimes there is nothing you can do about your current position. Understood. But it is your life to make different choices. My career has been comprised of night shift, day shift, working registry’s, two hospitals closing, and forced consolidation of two departments into one. Working several hospitals, and departments. Gathering information for myself. About what style of nurse, I wanted to be.
So, what is important to you? Write a list. Pros and Cons.
What do you like about your current job?
Where do you see yourself in the future? You can even imagine what that might look like. Months to Years ahead.
After you have written these down and defined your career as best as possible.
How are you going to use this information about yourself?
For myself, I started to ask other nurses with different paths about their jobs. The good, the bad, and the ugly. I wanted to understand if it was the time to transition. What would be my gain? We all know that it is a lot of work to switch it up. Or are you willing to accept, adapt and adjust to your current path.?
Regardless, don’t rush the process. Keep you eyes and ears open. Look up job descriptions and requirements. And ask a lot of questions.
There is a place for you. We change throughout our careers. And I believe that is great. Knowledge is power,
If you are needing more support. I am available for coaching sessions.
