Frontline Fatigue

I am a Nurse, Front liner for Covid-19, and a Stress Management Coach.

Kathy Parlevliet, the nurse who knows. Living the life of many nurses and healthcare givers. Struggling with the day-to-day work life experience.  Being completely exhausted after over 12 hours of work each shift.  Feeling overwhelmed and tearful of our current work environment.  The Pandemic feeling of generalized fatigue from everyone. How much longer can we keep this up?

As a full time, employee, and the never-ending number of new patients coming into our department, the dynamics of the department is changing.  Although our employer is attempting to support us, it is a band aid to our feelings.   Asking us, “Are you Alright?” is a tricky question.  Do you say how you really feel?  Or do you say the answer that they want to hear?

The necessary conversations are not being dealt with.  We are suppose to remain compassionate and caring regardless of our exhaustion.  The perfect nurse condition. We really need more help and getting breaks is a difficult challenge.   Recognizing that we somehow need to take care of ourselves.

What can you do to protect yourself from Frontline Fatigue?

How can you face another day of extreme working conditions?

When do you say something about your feelings?

These questions are a reality to surviving this pandemic.  Ask yourself these questions.  Think about the answer that can fit your work environment.  Share the solutions that you found that is working for you. Bringing this conversation forward, can create a feeling of not being alone.  Isolating your feelings can contribute to further emotional and physical issues.  The truth is, you are only human.  This is an extreme moment in your life.  Find your work friends, and your family members that you can talk with.

If you are struggling with finding the support you need..

I am here for you,
